Job Summary

Intake Nurse Practitioner for weekly elective admissions to Mt. Zion Hospital and outpatient clinic APP.

Inpatient Activities: With collaboration with the headache medical faculty; this nurse practitioner will admit, monitor, and discharge weekly elective admission (approximately 1-4 patients). Patients identified in the outpatient setting at the UCSF Migraine clinic are admitted to Mt. Zion Hospital. This individual will utilize a template order set for the treatment of refractory headaches. Monitoring of patients for adverse reactions/outcomes primarily includes ordering EKGs & Ultrasounds for possible arrhythmias and thrombus (rare occurrence). Medical support will be provided by UCSF headache physicians rounding daily along with hospitalist.

Outpatient Activities: The APP will have their own panel of patients and hold independent billable visits and/or co-manage with headache medical faculty. The APP will also be trained to perform PHASE III Research Evaluating Migraine Prophylaxis Therapy (PREEMPT) protocol utilizing Botox and various nerve block procedures.

Required Qualifications

• One to three (1-3) years NP experience in an inpatient or ambulatory setting
• One to two (1-2) years Neurology experience as and RN or NP
• Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

Preferred Qualifications

• Epic EMR experience.
• One to two (1-2) years inpatient experience.
• Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN) certification.
• Membership in professional organization(s).

License/Certification

• California driver's license (CDL) if required for position.
• Current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.
  • Accepted Certifications for this position: AGACNP-BC, AGACNP-BCPractitioner (Adult-ACNPC-AG, ACNPC
• Current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
• Complete a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a nurse practitioner.
• Obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
• Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
• Current AHA BLS
• Current AHA ACLS
• State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice
• Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
