Job Description

About Us

One Medical is a primary care solution challenging the industry status quo by making quality care more affordable, accessible and enjoyable. But this isn't your average doctor's office. We're on a mission to transform healthcare, which means improving the experience for everyone involved - from patients and providers to employers and health networks. Our seamless in-office and 24/7 virtual care services, on-site labs, and programs for preventive care, chronic care management, common illnesses and mental health concerns have been delighting people for the past fifteen years.

In February 2023 we marked a milestone when One Medical joined Amazon. Together, we look to deliver exceptional health care to more consumers, employers, care team members, and health networks to achieve better health outcomes. As we continue to grow and seek to impact more lives, we're building a diverse, driven and empathetic team, while working hard to cultivate an environment where everyone can thrive.

The Opportunity

At One Medical we build technology that powers best-in-class health care. Our web and mobile apps enable digital healthcare experience that our members love, and our software platform is used by our doctors and nurses to deliver great care. Our team delivers amazing end-to-end solutions to connect patients and our care team in new and innovative ways.

In our highly collaborative environment, not only will you be partnering with product development teams, but you'll also be working with the healthcare providers who deliver care daily to One Medical members. You will lead teams that build products that both allow members to access convenient self-service and also connect members to our care teams.

What you'll work on:

  • Manage engineering managers and senior engineering ICs to ship software products focused on the needs of our healthcare teams, enabling them to deliver world-class healthcare.
  • Partner with other leaders and stakeholders to develop organizational objectives, roadmaps, and planning cadence. Proactively manage potential issues to advance strategic initiatives and company goals.
  • Own the overall success and health of the organization reporting to you. This includes things like: hiring/onboarding, delivering against committed milestones, upholding high standards for software, and maintaining good morale, healthy culture, and engagement.
  • Facilitate and take ownership for the highest impact, most critical, future-facing technology decisions around healthcare-provider-facing health apps. Drive department-wide consensus for the adoption of broad technology decisions (i.e. modularization, API-first design, deployment strategy). Use these initiatives to inspire engineers and drive business success.
  • Mentor and build leaders within your teams, including engineering leaders with and without direct reporting relationships.
  • Analyze the capacity and growth of technical systems across care-team-facing domains, defining key metrics and using these to drive behavior and incentives throughout your organization.

You are:

  • Seeking to do something bigger than just another job. You want to apply your skills to a cause that you care about while working with a talented and fun team.
  • An owner of everything you do. You take pride in building high-functioning teams and delivering impactful capabilities to our users.
  • A collaborative thinker. You enjoy working closely with all your coworkers -- technical, organizational, and clinical -- and debating the right trade-offs with your teammates, stakeholders, and leaders.
  • Thoughtful achiever. You strive to craft the complete product. You think through everything you build, from architecture and design to code and testing. You value scalability, maintainability, and security.
  • Transformational leader, capable of leading engineering teams and leaning in to support product management

What you'll need:

  • 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer or b2b software experiences
  • 7+ years of people management experience with 5+ of those years focused on engineering team management
  • 5+ years of engineering experience - solid Object Oriented design and implementation skills
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment
  • Knowledge of security best practices
  • Experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or other cloud platforms
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with partners and stakeholders across the organization

Not required, but would be great if you also have:

  • Experience with microservice architectures
  • B.S. / M.S. in Computer Science
  • Familiarity with healthcare domains and technologies
