Job Summary
This position provides administrative support to the Executive Director of Risk Management and supports the claims/litigation functions within the department. This individual represents the Executive Director and UCSF Health Risk Management in interactions with physicians, staff, and all levels of management across UCSF Health (UCSF Medical Center, UCSF Campus, Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute, School of Dentistry, UCSF Health St. Mary's/UCSF Health St. Francis Hospitals) as well as outside UC legal counsel, UCOP, UC's Third Party Administrator and other agencies. This position also interfaces with outside law firms and agencies seeking to obtain the appearance/testimony of UCSF physicians and staff.

Department Description
The primary function of the Risk Management Department is to minimize financial exposure to UCSF Health (inclusive of UCSF Medical Center, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, UCSF School of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry and Pharmacy, LPPI, and UCSF affiliates and community partners) arising from professional liability matters. The department also serves as a resource to all UCSF Health staff/employees regarding risk management issues. Risk management consultation is provided on a 24-hour basis. The department also serves as an agent for service of deposition and trial/hearing subpoenas for currently employed UCSF providers/staff. The department is physically located at 1800 Owens Street, Suite C4, room 460 in San Francisco and offers a hybrid work schedule.
This position is a dynamic fast paced position with tremendous opportunity for learning and developing Risk Management and management skills. This key position requires strict attention to detail, critical thinking, and the ability to multi-task. This position is responsible for the preparation of legal correspondence and internal claim-related documents and correspondence to facilitate litigated claims/suits being managed in the office from their inception to resolution. This position is also responsible for intake, logging, and facilitating the distribution of subpoenas for deposition and trial/hearing appearances and collaborating with Risk Management staff for when legal counsel needs to be assigned for the deposition. This position also assists the Executive Director with calendar management and other administrative support.
This position is ideal for individuals with some experience as a legal secretary or assistant who is able to work independently, take initiative and enjoys working in an everchanging landscape of issues and fact patterns that occur in the legal and/or clinical worlds. Every day is different in the department and there is a broad range of issues and situations that require timely actions and response.
