OverviewIn Microsoft's Mixed Reality team (the makers of Hololens), we are defining the next generation of AI-powered devices which will enable the real world to become the AI inputs. We are looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to help us build the next generations of Mixed Reality devices. In this role, you will drive electrical system architecture and PCB/PCBA designs for Mixed Reality products, both industrial and consumer. You will partner closely with mechanical, Industrial Design, display, sensors, cameras, wireless, and firmware teams to drive the right design tradeoffs for the product. A deep understanding of the interplay between system architecture, mechanical and software in creating state of the art consumer electronics will be critical. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts across different levels of the organization will be key. ResponsibilitiesElectrical System Architecture: Lead the electrical architecture of mixed reality devices, balancing considerations such as interconnect, silicon, power architecture, form factor, complexity, feasibility and cost. Create EE block diagrams to drive clarity on concepts and options. Drive product requirements that require Electrical ownership Design PCBAs: Rigid MLB's Main Logic Boards (MLB) , Flex PCBA's and Rigid Flex PCBA's: Design schematics and drive layout for PCBAs. Review designs for digital and analog circuits, high speed interfaces, power and signal integrity, and Design-For-XComponent integration of custom and off the shelf silicon: Evaluate System on Chip (SoC) and key components based on performance, memory bandwidth, and interface capabilities, fostering partnerships with both firmware, architecture, and display/sensors Interconnect Architecture: Collaborate with the architecture and mechanical engineering team to design manufacturable interconnect options that integrates SoCs, Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC), cameras, displays, sensors, and wireless modules, utilizing interfaces such as PCIe, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, USB, SPI, I2C, and MIPI.Improve Design, Quality and Reliability: Work closely across the Electrical Engineering team, Reliability and system validation team to drive and execute validation, own bugs to closure and support failure analysis.
