Overview

LifeLong Medical Care is looking for a Associate Program Director (APD) to join our Family Medicine Residency team at the William Jenkins Health Center in Richmond, California. Under the direction of the Program Director (PD), the APD will assist the PD in running and administering the Family Medicine Residency Program (FMRP). They will function as the acting PD in the event of PD absence. They assist with administrative functions, plans, implements and assists with major educational projects, and assists in recruitment of residents. The APD fills other integral roles within the team as designated by the PD.

This position is 0.6 FTE administrative time and 0.4 FTE clinical time (including precepting and continuity clinic).

Benefits:

Responsibilities

Direct Education:
o Precepting - a minimum of 20% (two sessions per week) strongly encouraged, enough direct contact for the associate PD to have a sense of strengths and weaknesses of individual residents as well as the system.
o Teaching

    Teaching at Didactic half-day, as assigned

Administrative
o Assist PD in maintaining full accreditation from ACGME Review Committee - Family Medicine.
o Chair the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and participate in the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC)
o Oversee FMRP clinic operations in cooperation with the FMRP clinic manager
o Attend weekly core faculty meetings
o Available for acute/urgent resident questions and concerns
o Available to departmental leadership for consultation on local, regional and national developments that affect program
o Administer the resident advising program
o Active participation in all aspects of residency quality, including, but not limited to:
o Development of policies and procedures;
o Evaluations - residents, rotations, faculty, etc.
o Accreditation processes, including Internal and RRC reviews
o Curriculum development
o Planning and participation for Residency Retreat
o Act as the PD's GMEC proxy, attending meetings when needed
o Act as counsel and advisor to program director
o Assist in the creation and implementation of new and innovative residency topics or methods of teaching
o Act as liaison or assign a delegate to coordinate with other outside institutions who host our residents.

Recruitment
o Support the following recruitment activities:
* Applicant screening and selection process
* Applicant interview process
* Participate in recruitment fairs and events
* Act as FMRP ambassador through presentations and participation in regional and national meetings
o Medical student mentoring and teaching - as preceptor, as well as at medical school events

Resident support
o Resident advising, as needed
o Support for remedial process for individual residents, as needed
o Participation in disciplinary processes as appropriate for role
o Chief resident support - formal and informal processes in support of leadership and professional development
o Participation in end of year events, including graduation, etc.

Clinical care
o Maintain active family medicine practice;
o Maintain ABFM of AOBFP Board certification.


Scholarship
o Attendance at national and regional GME conferences.
o Presentations at regional and national conferences that help promote the program.
o Scholarship for own advancement as well as the program's advancement.

Leadership Development
o Active participation in the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors
o Completion of the National Institute of Program Director Development (NIPDD)
o Other leadership development opportunities as they arise

Qualifications

The following are required as qualifications for the Associate Program Director position:


1. Demonstration of ability as a teacher.
2. Demonstration of administrative and management skills.
3. Valid licensure; Have appropriate medical staff privileges and be board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFP).
4. Full scope outpatient family practice; competence in a wide range of outpatient procedures highly desirable.
5. Willingness to serve as PD when that position is vacated.

The following are highly desired but not required qualifications for the position:


1. Minimum 2 years of experience with a continuity practice.
2. Minimum 1 year of GME experience, preferably as a core faculty member within a family medicine residency program.
